Toddlers’ Activities

Executive Summary on Toddler Activities By Theresea Hughes

Many people have a hard time finding new and exciting activities for their toddler. Any activity that involves counting for your toddler is a good idea. Other than counting, it is good to get your toddler accustomed to seeing and identifying shapes and colors.

Here is one great way to get your child identifying shapes and colors. Print out a sheets of paper with outlines of different shapes. Use different colors for each outline. Next, cut out the shapes and colors that match up with the outlines you have already made. Now hide the shapes around the house. After that, it is time to give your toddler the sheets with the outlines on it and help them hunt down the shapes and stick them to the outlines with tape.

A timeless classic with toddlers is using water colors. Not only is this good in helping your kid identify colors, but what toddler doesn’t enjoy playing with water?

Remember, activities for your toddler that stimulate them mentally are fun, too!

Ten Activities To Entertain Your Toddler

Executive Summary on Toddler Activities By Jackie Lee

Get Artistic:
I cover our coffee table in a large piece of craft paper and get out the crayons, pens and pencils and finger paints. She loves to draw and my table is protected.

Play-doh:
Fairly self explanatory. Make sure to cover your floor to keep your carpet clean.

Slide:
Either go to the playground or you can buy a small tiny tikes slide and put it right in the living room.

Tent or TeePee:
We got a cloth teepee at the county fair this year. She takes pillows and blankets in there and runs in and out. We recently acquired a “play hut.” It’s made out of tent material, has a couple larger rooms and tunnels connect them.

I-Spy:
Whether you spy ears, bellybuttons, or sheep or dogs. I-Spy gets toddlers involved in learning new words and begin to learn to individuate items.

Kitchen Play:
Fill a bottom cabinet, away from the stove, with different sized plastic containers. They can bang them together and start stacking them inside one another.

Dance:
Dancing is such fun. Just turn on the radio or a CD and get silly with your little one. Be silly, Have fun, dance like no one’s watching.

Go to the park:

Get some fresh air, swing, play with other kids.

Play dress up:
Get some old t-shirts, dresses and even older siblings hand me downs, and dress up. Get them to use their imagination, pretend to be a princess or a farmer.

Make a “favorites” book:
Look through old magazines together and let them find things they like. Cut the pictures out of the magazine and paste them onto construction paper. Write what they are on each page then tie the pages together. Now she has a little book of her “favorites”.

  1. [...] Walk to Park: The walk alone is enough to keep them busy. It’s a great time for you to relax a bit and enjoy the day, keeping an eye on them while they bounce from one activity to the other. [...]
